It was a time of immense joy and great expectation when 350 young people mostly from Muslim backgrounds gathered with open hearts to receive teaching and instruction from the Bible. How could this be possible? Call of Hope Ghana runs a Correspondence Course for thousands of students and individuals in Ghana. Every year, we run a “Seekers Conference” and select a number of the students who through our Correspondence Course are desperately seeking to know Jesus.
The theme for this year's conference was, "Redeeming the time and maximising our opportunities." The students were taught how to manage their time and to be proactive in making decisions for Jesus. They were also taken through the causes and prevention of HIV/AIDS and were given some career counselling. In addition, the students were given the opportunity to ask questions pertaining to the books they have read from our centre. Some of the important and challenging questions they posed were: How can I grow as a Christian in a Muslim home? After having read the book, "My grace is sufficient for you" I now want to give my life to Jesus, but my genuine concern and question is, how can I openly declare my faith for Jesus when I am still living with my Muslim parents and fully taken care of by them?
One of the participants whose experience thrilled everybody at the conference had this to say, "When I started reading the literature from Call of Hope, my parents and all the people in our house were very unhappy with me. I normally would hide to read the books, but because of the transformation that the books are bringing in my life, my parents who used to be against seeing the books in the house now pretend not to see them even though they are all over the house now."
When the students of the correspondence course reach a certain stage in their studies they are awarded with certificates |
These testimonies echo this life story we heard from one of our communities: A Muslim Cleric entered a Church in one of our communities. The people in the Church were all troubled and quiet. The Cleric asked, ' can I speak?' The people in the Church thought, this might be last day the church will ever meet in this village. The Cleric continued, 'The people in this community steal cows in the night by luring them away with salt. But you have come to steal our children in broad day light with books.' He paused and all the people started to shiver, then he continued, 'but I support you because of the character, moral and behavioural changes it brings to our children and community'.
With this sustainable impact and great expectation for the Muslim youth, we are very grateful to Evangelische Karmel Mission and the partners in Europe and other parts of the world who pray and support this ministry financially.
Some students came on buses from towns as far as 120 kilometres away from Tamale |
Prayer and Praise
- Praise God for a successful conference.
- Praise God for the opportunities that the literature and the “Seekers Conference” provide in reaching out to Muslims.
- Pray that we as an organisation, together with you, can be wise in making the most of every opportunity in reaching the Muslim world.
- Pray for the Correspondence students that the literature we put in the hands and hearts of thousands of Muslims will continue to yield eternal dividends.
