Funeral

For the past week there has been a display of culture and tradition in our village. About two years ago the chief of our village died. Last week the funeral was celebrated and a new chief was enskinned. Since the position of the chief in the village where we live is of great importance to the chieftancy system in Dagbon as a whole, many important chiefs from all over Dagbon came to pay their last respects. Warriors shot their guns to salute the late chief and make the presence of their own chiefs known. The drummers played throughout the week, day and night, to celebrate the life of the late chief and many visitors showed their dancing skills.

At the end of the celebration a new chief was appointed. The choice is a very remarkable one. The man who was chosen to lead the village and take his position among the prominent chiefs in Dagbon is a Christian and even a pastor of the ‘Church of Christ’!

Please pray:
  • that this new leader will remain faithful to God and will be able to stand up against any traditional practices which have a spiritual connotation for which he would have to compromise his faith.
  • that he will be a living testimony to the leadership of Dagbon.
  • for health - Abukari is recovering from malaria and Micah has the flu.
  • for preparations for a training session amongst the women of the church by Joke.
